A Letter from Our CEO

Thomas Golden

November is a time to reflect on the many things we are thankful for, and I want to highlight a few key areas that are particularly meaningful.

First and foremost, I am proud to share that we recently honored nearly 80 of our member veterans on our website. This initiative celebrates their service and sacrifices, and it is an honor to recognize these remarkable individuals who have given so much to our country. As many of you may read from the Viewpoints article in Carolina Country, I had the privilege of serving in the Navy, and this personal connection deepens my appreciation for the dedication and bravery of our veterans. We encourage you to visit our landing page to view their stories and join us in expressing our gratitude for their service.

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, I want to thank each of you for your unwavering support and commitment to EnergyUnited. Your involvement plays a crucial role in our mission to enhance and innovate our services. It is your engagement that enables us to advance with technology and continue improving our service area. This season of gratitude reminds us of the strong community we are fortunate to be part of, and we remain dedicated to ensuring that our cooperative meets your needs with excellence.

I am also pleased to share the results of our recent Board of Directors election. I would like to congratulate Jill Doss-Raines, who has been elected to serve on our Board for a three-year term. We look forward to her contributions and leadership as we continue to work toward our shared goals. Your participation in this election reflects the strength of our cooperative and our collective commitment to its future.

Lastly, I want to address an important issue that has come to our attention: solar scams. As the interest in solar energy continues to grow, we have seen an increase in fraudulent schemes targeting our members. We want to remind you to be vigilant and to thoroughly research any offers or contracts related to solar energy. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for guidance. Our goal is to ensure that you have access to reliable information and support as you explore your energy options.

In closing, I want to express my sincere thanks for your ongoing support and trust in EnergyUnited. Your membership truly is what energizes our cooperative. We look forward to continuing our work together and building on the strong foundation we have established.

Wishing you a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
Thomas Golden, CEO

Steer Clear ofSolar Scams

Over the last few years the residential solar energy industry has expanded significantly. During this expansion, federal and state regulators have received an increase in consumer complaints. Customers have been deceived about costs and savings, misled about loans and tax credits, and pressured by aggressive sales and marketing tactics. We want you to have all the information you need to stay safe and steer clear of solar scams!

Solar Scam Tips:

1. Watch out for sales pitches that claim to be a government program.

2. Call for several estimates. Having an interest in solar is a wonderful thing, but shopping around can ensure you get the best bang for your buck.

3. Do not pay large upfront costs. Anything that is asking you to pay a large deposit or application fee is a scam and should be avoided.

Honoring OurVeterans

This July, we asked members to submit entries of themselves, friends or family members who have served or are currently serving in the United States military. We are proud to have received nearly 80 submissions!

Due to the large volume of submissions, we created a searchable landing page where names, photos, stories and history now live. “Thank you” hardly feels sufficient but from all of us at EnergyUnited, thank you for your service. We are thrilled to be able to honor these veterans, and their families in this way.

Sustainability Corner:Perendale Solar

On September 25, EnergyUnited held its commissioning event for the Perendale Solar Farm in Mocksville, NC. The event included remarks from CEO Thomas Golden, COO Brett Alkins, EnergyUnited Board President Brian Sisson, Vice President Energy Services and Corporate Communications LaQuisha Parks and hep solar President Wayne Marshall. We appreciate all who came out to celebrate this momentous occasion and look forward to a more sustainable future.

Legislative Corner: Perendale Solar

When you think about the future of energy in our country, what are the greatest reasons to feel hopeful? What concerns do you have? We are excited to see EnergyUnited and electric cooperatives nationwide adding more renewable energy to the grid.

At EnergyUnited, we are supporting this transformation as part of our commitment to delivering safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable energy to our members. In fact, our cooperative recently commissioned a new solar farm in Davie County to add 8.2 MW of clean, renewable power to its energy supply mix.

The Perendale Solar Farm will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 1,400 homes annually. Additionally, the project will serve an important role in the cooperative’s energy supply plan.

The feasibility model that was used for this project will also be used to support the development of additional solar facilities across the cooperative’s service area over the next several years. EnergyUnited believes that for any energy supply project to be feasible, regardless of the fuel resource that is used, it must support the cooperative’s mission to provide safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable energy.

We were excited to share a successful project like this with our legislators, demonstrating that sustainable solutions work when we balance them with our priority of reliability at an affordable cost.
