EnergyUnited Donates $10,000 TO Iredell Christian Ministries

STATESVILLE, N.C. – On Monday, September 9, 2019 the EnergyUnited Foundation presented a $10,000 check to Iredell Christian Ministries (ICM) to provide energy assistance for the nonprofit organization.

ICM has been aiding low-income households since 2007. The organization was formed by downtown churches in Statesville after noticing an increase in individuals coming directly to church offices requesting food, clothing and financial assistance for shelter, transportation, utility bills and medications.

“ICM has made a huge impact in the lives of our members and the people of Iredell County over the past twelve years,” said Debra Citta, EnergyUnited Foundation Administrator. “We are so fortunate to work with strong partners like ICM who are also dedicated to serving others.”

ICM leverages a large volunteer base to maintain affordable operating costs; however, they also depend on community support to achieve organizational goals. Joy Morrison, executive director of ICM, mentioned that the organization plans to use the funds from the EnergyUnited Foundation to purchase a new generator and to set a 330-gallon propane tank for their facility. The former investment will boost operational efficiency by mitigating the impact of power outages and the latter will offer an affordable heating solution.

“We are very thankful to receive this grant from the EnergyUnited Foundation,” Morrison said. “This funding will provide a key solution to the energy challenges we have faced as an organization. Ultimately, it will enable us to focus more attention on our clients’ needs.”

The EnergyUnited Foundation is a voluntary, member-funded non-profit organization supported by EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program. Nearly 70,000 EnergyUnited members choose to participate in the program by ‘rounding up’ their electric bills each month. The maximum monthly contribution for an individual member with one account is 99 cents. Each of these small contributions are pooled together in a single fund managed by the EnergyUnited Foundation to support needy individuals, families, and non-profit organizations like Iredell Christian Ministries that complete an application explaining the reason and purpose for their requested grant.
