ENERGYUNITED FOUNDATION AWARDS $7,277 ‘DRIVE TO SHINE’ DONATION TO WEST DAVIDSON FOOD PANTRY AND CLOTHES CLOSET

STATESVILLE, N.C. – The EnergyUnited Foundation awarded its second “Drive to Shine” grant this week in the amount of $7,277 to West Davidson Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. This is the first of three donations to food banks in Davidson Country through the Foundation’s Drive to Shine campaign.

The West Davidson Food Pantry was established by a group of churches in the West Davidson area in the summer of 2008 with the goal of helping feed and clothe people in the West Davidson area who were facing financial hardship. There are now twelve churches participating in this ministry. Each month this pantry serves 120 families and we have approximately 60 clients who are retired or disabled and are served on a monthly basis.

“We are thankful to receive this donation from the EnergyUnited Foundation,” said Wendy Marion, director of West Davidson Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. “Our organization meets many important needs, but our work to respond to rising levels of food insecurity in our community represents one of the most essential components of our efforts to help individuals and families in times of crisis.”

“We are proud to support the West Davidson Food Pantry and Clothes Closet,” said Debra Citta, administrator of the EnergyUnited Foundation. “Our Drive to Shine campaign is just getting started and we hope that it inspires others to give back and serve those who are less fortunate.”

The EnergyUnited Foundation is a voluntary, member-funded non-profit organization supported by EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program.  Nearly 70,000 EnergyUnited members choose to participate in the program by ‘rounding up’ their electric bills each month.  The maximum monthly contribution for an individual member with one account is 99 cents.  Each of these small contributions are pooled together in a single fund managed by the EnergyUnited Foundation to support needy individuals, families, and non-profit organizations like West Davidson Food Pantry and Clothes Closet that complete an application explaining the reason and purpose for their requested grant.
