ENERGYUNITED ANNOUNCES 2021 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

STATESVILLE, N.C. – EnergyUnited is pleased to announce its 2021 Empowering the Future scholarship winners: Sadie Essic of Davie Country and Amaya Hanley of Mecklenburg County. Both students will receive $5,000 college scholarships from EnergyUnited which will be used to cover qualifying educational expenses.

Essic, a senior at Davie County High School, plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill this fall to study biology. She has served as president of the National Honor Society, vice-president of the Make-A-Wish Club, secretary of Student Council and member of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).

Hanley, a senior at William Amos Hough High School, plans to attend Duke University this fall to study life sciences. She has served as vice-president of her graduating class, fundraising chairman of the Make-A-Wish Club, co-president of National Honors Society (NHS) and has received several athletic awards as a member of her school’s swim team.

“Amaya and Sadie have clearly demonstrated remarkable success in classroom, but they also carry a genuine passion for community service,” said Maureen Moore, communications manager for EnergyUnited. “It’s an honor to support their postsecondary studies.”

This year marks the fourth year in which EnergyUnited has offered college scholarships through its Empowering the Future program. All seniors who live in a residence or attend a high school served by EnergyUnited are eligible to apply each year. EnergyUnited will begin accepting applications next year on January 1, 2022.
