ENERGYUNITED DONATES $1,000 TO COVER THE CITY PROJECT

STATESVILLE, N.C. – The EnergyUnited Foundation recently donated $1,000 to Cover the City Project, a nonprofit organization that provides socks, blankets, scarves and coats to homeless individuals throughout North Carolina.

Cover the City Project started in 2013 when Amanda Anderson, founder and executive director, noticed a homeless man sleeping on a bench behind the High Point Krispy Kreme. She watched the man for weeks and then around Christmas time she rallied some friends to pull together their resources to give this man coats, scarves, blankets, and gift cards to local restaurants. Afterwards, Anderson began to assess the needs of the homeless population in the community and Cover the City Project was established.

“Our mission is to cover cities literally and physically with warmth and love,” Anderson said. “We are grateful to receive this grant from the EnergyUnited Foundation, which will be used to provide socks and blankets to homeless individuals in the community.”

“The EnergyUnited Foundation is proud to support Cover the City Project and its mission to serve homeless individuals in the community,” said Debra Citta, administrator of the EnergyUnited Foundation. “This grant represents just one example of our support for the cooperative principle Concern for Community.”

The EnergyUnited Foundation is a voluntary, member-funded non-profit organization supported by EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program. Nearly 90,000 EnergyUnited members choose to participate in the program by ‘rounding up’ their electric bills each month. The maximum monthly contribution for an individual member with one account is 99 cents. Each of these small contributions are pooled together in a single fund managed by the EnergyUnited Foundation to support needy individuals, families, and essential nonprofit organizations that complete an application explaining the reason and purpose for their requested grant.
