We’ve expanded our capabilities to reduce your energy costs. Both programs help put the power in your hands to manage energy use.
From the moment you wake up, you’re using a lot of power. Turning on lights, cooking, showering, washing dishes, etc. And during peak times—like cold winter mornings or hot summer afternoons—you’re using power even more. That’s where our BEAT THE PEAK program can help!
SO, WHAT IS IT?
Beat the Peak is a free program that notifies members via text and/or email when there are forecasts for extreme temperatures, a.k.a. peak times. Peaks occur when the demand (and cost) for electricity is the highest.
When you receive an alert, you’ll be encouraged to adjust your thermostat, lighting, and to shift the time you use large appliances in an effort to hold down the demand for power. In turn, you’ll save money by decreasing your power usage, and the cooperative will be better able to manage costs by limiting how much additional energy we purchase during the peak.

Do you have or are you planning to purchase a Google Nest, Honeywell Home or Ecobee smart thermostat? If so, we encourage you to enroll in PEAK TIME PERKS, a program for EnergyUnited electric residential members that rewards you for allowing us to adjust your thermostat during peak periods. When you sign up, you’ll be credited $50 on your electric bill. And for each year after that, an additional $20 will be credited to your account.
SO, HOW DOES IT WORK?

For starters, you must connect your thermostat to Wi-Fi and enroll in Peak Time Perks. Then, during times of high electricity demand (“energy rush hours”) when air conditioners or heat kick into high gear, you will be notified via text and/or email, and your thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature to balance energy savings.
At any time during this event, you can choose to manually change the temperature on your thermostat and opt out of that particular event if you don’t want to participate.
