EnergyUnited Director Earns Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) Certificate

STATESVILLE, N.C. – EnergyUnited Board Director Zolee Riggs recently earned the Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) Certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).

An ever-changing business environment has imposed new demands on electric cooperative directors, requiring increased knowledge of changes in the electric utility business, new governance skills and a solid knowledge of the cooperative principles and business model. EnergyUnited is committed to sharpening this body of knowledge to benefit its members.

The Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) program requires a demonstrated understanding of the basic competencies contained in five core courses:

  • -Director Duties and Liabilities
  • -Understanding the Electric Business
  • -Board Operations and Process
  • -Strategic Planning
  • -Financial Decision Making

“EnergyUnited is committed to delivering best-in-class service to members by supporting cooperative-focused educational programs,” said Thomas Golden, chief executive officer of EnergyUnited. “We understand the importance of leveraging continuing education as a resource for addressing the complex challenges that lie ahead in our industry.”

Riggs is the third director to receive a special certification from NRECA this year. As an electric cooperative, EnergyUnited values educational opportunities that support innovative solutions to complex industry challenges and the Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) Certificate is an important program that supports this effort.
