EnergyUnited Donates $10,000 to Advocacy Center of Davie County

STATESVILLE, N.C. – The EnergyUnited Foundation recently presented a $10,000 check to The Advocacy Center of Davie County to provide support for the organization’s efforts to serve those who have experienced a recent financial crisis.

The Advocacy Center is a faith-based non-profit organization that was established for the purpose of providing one time or temporary assistance to qualifying Davie County residents in a time of crisis.

“The EnergyUnited Foundation is very thankful to have strong community partners like The Advocacy Center to provide a safety net to support the people in our community in times of need,” said Maureen Moore, communications manager for EnergyUnited. “We all share this concern in our communities because we could all be faced with a crisis or catastrophic scenario in an instant. So, it’s great to know that organizations like the Advocacy Center exist to help in these situations.”

The Advocacy Center began as a joint effort between the First Presbyterian and Second Presbyterian Churches in Mocksville. It was incorporated on December 26, 2006 and began to serve the needy in 2007. Its mission is to work together with local churches and public and private agencies to help individuals and families temporarily in need of a helping hand.

“We are very thankful for EnergyUnited and this support that was made possible through its Operation Round-Up program,” said Marcia Phillips, executive director of The Advocacy Center of Davie County. “This donation will help us continue our efforts to provide a safety net for those in Davie County who are suddenly faced with an unthinkable crisis.”

The EnergyUnited Foundation is a voluntary, member-funded non-profit organization supported by EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program. Nearly 70,000 EnergyUnited members choose to participate in the program by ‘rounding up’ their electric bills each month. The maximum monthly contribution for an individual member with one account is 99 cents. Each of these small contributions are pooled together in a single fund managed by the EnergyUnited Foundation to support needy individuals, families, and non-profit organizations like The Advocacy Center of Davie County that complete an application explaining the reason and purpose for their requested grant.
