STATESVILLE, N.C. – EnergyUnited is proud to announce that two high school students have been selected by the co-op to attend the 2020 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C in June: Gavin Gallimore of Lexington, NC and Toni Winiker of Davidson, NC.
Gallimore, 16, is a junior at Central Davidson High School. In addition to serving as the Junior Class Secretary, Gallimore is also a member of the Central Davidson FCA, FFA, the National Honor Society and enjoys running track and cross country.
Winiker, 17, is a junior at William A. Hough High School and currently serves as HOSA Junior Class Representative. Winiker’s academic achievements also include her selection to join the school’s AP Capstone Program, National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society and the AP Ambassadors Program.
The two students will join over 1,500 students from across the United States for a one-week, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. While on the Youth Tour, students will have the opportunity to learn more about electric cooperatives, meet and interact with congressional leaders and visit historic monuments.
“The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour offers an incredible leadership opportunity for these two outstanding students,” said Maureen Moore, Communications Manager for EnergyUnited. “I am sure this will be a trip that they will never forget.”
The program is open to high school sophomores and juniors in EnergyUnited’s 19-county service area. Participants must complete an application and write a letter to an elected official on one of two topics provided by the co-op. Each year, a selection committee identifies finalists and chooses two individuals to represent EnergyUnited on the trip. This year, the trip is scheduled for June 20-26.
